time show your commitment to a Clean and Green environment!"

Take the Challenge!
The GeoSports Green Challenge combines the green movement with fitness sports to help bring
awareness to the importance of maintaining a healthy environment and body.

It’s designed to get people of all ages involved in physical activities and to serve
as a platform to help promote zero-waste, recycle, to use renewable energy,
alternative transportation, live locally and maintain a sustainable lifestyle. It's also
about having fun!

This is How it Works!

  • Activities: Features the most basic and most popular forms of non-polluting, low carbon footprint recreational fitness
sports. Biking, kayaking, running/walking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

  • Team Concept: Each team comprises of 3-5 members. Co-ed, all male or all female. Each team selects a team
    captain.

  • Points System: Points are earned based on pre-determined distances. Simply, the faster and further you go the
more points are earned. Click on individual activity to see points breakdown.

  • Compete against yourself at your pace and schedule. In other words the time and miles normally spent training or
just working out recreationally can now be converted to points, awards and recognition.

  • Phases: There are four phases, or sessions, per year. Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. Each phase is three
months long. After each phase, teams may stay intact, form new ones, change teammates, change name, sponsors
etc. with each new Phase. Points winners and special accomplishments are recognized and published following
    each Phase.

  • Honor system: All team members are responsible for logging their own points and turning them into their team
captain each month of each phase. Team points leaders are posted each month in Alternatives Magazine website,
weekly Enewsletters, plus our Facebook, Twitter, MeetUp accounts and sent to all local media.

  • Registration fee: $45 per member, per three month phase. Fee includes participant t-shirt and kickoff party.

Team Sponsorship!!
This is the heart of promotion and the benefits of businesses sponsoring an "in-house" team, or teams, are limitless.

  • Teams can comprise of corporate businesses, local businesses, schools, clubs, civic organizations and family
members. Sponsors can sponsor as many teams as they want. More teams, more exposure. They can be "in-
house" or chosen outside the workplace.

  • From a promotional and marketing point of view, team names are important and it's recommended to use the
sponsors corporate or business name followed by a sub-title or slogan. However, zany off-the-wall, names also
    work, creating attention and exposure.

  • Teams can be formed within different departments EX.  sales staff, warehouse, teachers, administration, medical
    techs, nursing staff etc.

  • Sponsor may pay entire entry fee ($225 per three month session, per team) or have members contribute individually.
    Entirely up to sponsor.

  • Sponsors may provide team t-shirts or jackets, displaying the sponsors logo and colors. The more fanfare the more
    exposure.

Sponsorship Benefits
  • The benefits of sponsoring a team is a great way to promote employee camaraderie, fitness attitudes at the work
place and an opportunity to showcase your business and your commitment to a "Clean and Green" environment.

  • For family or school teams, this is a "fun way" to get involved with a fitness program and learn about being green
    together.

  • There are also many positive economic, marketing and advertising benefits. Team points leaders are posted each
month in Alternatives Magazine website, weekly E-newsletters, plus our Facebook, Twitter, MeetUp accounts and
sent to all local and regional media. You can also create your own promotional ideas as the program continues to
    grow!

Clean and Green!
More than 60 million plastic bottles end up in landfills and incinerators every day – a total of about 22
billion last year. Six times as many plastic water bottles were thrown away in the US in 2004 as in
1997. Plastic water bottles are clogging streams and tributaries and eventually every ocean making
it a world wide problem. Just to meet the US demand for bottled water requires more than 15 million
barrels of oil annually, enough to fuel 100,000 cars for a year. People participating in outdoor
recreational sports and organizations promoting  them are some of the biggest contributors to the
problem and also the most passionate to help solve it. The GeoSports Green Challenge combines
    both.

    Green Awards
Each event will maintain a "Green" and "Zero-Waste" theme and encourages everyone to use stainless steel or
glass water bottles instead of disposable plastic bottles. Special "Keep it Green" awards will be given to the teams
displaying and promoting the best green ideas.

    Get there Green
To help reduce the footprint all participants and spectators are encouraged to walk,
bike, car pool or use city transit systems to events (and everywhere else) whenever
    possible.
